Summer camp is a quintessential part of Scouts and a right
of passage for every Scout in the Troop.
From enjoying the cooler weather at Camp Geronimo near Payson, going on
an out of state adventure to Emerald Bay on Catalina Island, or taking a true
high adventure trip backpacking through the majestic wilderness at Philmont;
Troop 17 encourages our Scouts to be part of the adventure and comradery of
participating in summer camp.
Troop 17 will normally plan on attending Camp Geronimo every
summer and encourage new Scouts and those just looking for a simple getaway to
join in this adventure. A trip to the
cooler Northern Arizona weather provides a fun summer camp experience without Scouts
needing to venture too far from home as they become comfortable with the
program and a weeklong camping experience.
Trips to other camps are planned regularly as well, rotating through the
many options depending on the adventures our Scouts seek in that year.
Summer camps focus on Scouting activities, with Scouts often
earning multiple merit badges while at camp.
These camps tend to include meals and accommodation for the Scouts; requiring
less packing than other outings. It is
important that Scouts do pay attention to the details provided when planning to
attend a summer camp, however, as what you need to bring varies from camp-to-camp.
